I currently am using PINE 4.64 running on Debian Linux 4.

I have also installed Ubuntu 8.04 on another partition on the same
computer.

Is the .pinerc file for PINE 4.64, usable by Alpine, and, would it be
changed (that would make it no longer usable by PINE 4.64) by Alpine?

I am awondering about accessing my mailbox on the mailserver, while I am
in Ubuntu, without harming my PINE installation.

Thank you in anticipation.

You can use Pine and Alpine interchangeably with the same .pinerc file.
If you are afraid of anything failing, make a copy of the .pinerc file
and start Alpine with the "-p" option, for example

alpine -p ~/.pinerc-copy
