no spellchecking

On Alpine 1.00 (a ubuntu supplied upgrade) when I try to invoke the spell
checker with ^T the errormessage is "Spell checking file " " not found".
Looking at the configuration file, there is no value set for the spell
checker. I don't know what the default is but when I entered
/usr/bin/aspell I got the message "alternate speller terminated
abnormally (-1)" Trying /usr/bin/ispell succeeds but I would rather use
aspell. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Make sure there is at least one aspell dictionary loaded/installed. I had
that problem some years ago, and it was due to me missing the english
dictionary. Look to see if you have aspell-en package installed; my bets
are that you don't.

I run Pine 4.64, but my speller in Pine's config is set to:
/usr/bin/aspell --mode=email check

Thanks for the reply but you lose:

[***@localhost]/var/lib/aspell$ ls
en_CA-w_accents-only.rws en.compat
en_GB-ize-w_accents-only.rws en_US-wo_accents-only.rws en-variant_2.rws
en_CA-wo_accents-only.rws en_GB-ise-w_accents-only.rws
en_GB-ize-wo_accents-only.rws en-variant_0.rws
en-common.rws en_GB-ise-wo_accents-only.rws
en_US-w_accents-only.rws en-variant_1.rws

Just back the truck with the money up to my door tommorrow. Not too early
though. I don't get up much before 10:00 A.M.

Seriously, any other ideas? Anyone?

/usr/bin/aspell --mode=email check
Just took another look at your reply and noticed the "--mode=email check".
That did the trick. I missed it in the man page.

I seem to remember that before the Ubuntu supplied upgrade that was the
default.

Thanks again
